Which belly tattoos look the best?

The two places with the largest area to have a tattoo are your back and your stomach, but belly tattoos are special as you can admire them in the mirror, whereas I have one on my back and I can barely remember what it looks like! Also as long as you keep away from the pelvis then it should be a relatively nice tattoo to get as you are not hitting the bone which is when a tattoo gets more painful (remember that if you're planning to go over the ribs!). Here are 5 of the most popular belly tattoos designs and why:

For women:

Flowers

Flowers are a classic tattoo design, they are beautiful to look at, they can be very vibrant or very subdued depending on which you choose, and you can choose flowers that symbolise different things if you want your tattoo to have a special meaning.
They are also good because you can shape them to fill the area that you want them to, or take a path around your body, so you could have a vine wind round your belly button if you want, or creep up the side of your stomach.

Stars

Stars are also a classic because they are so easy to have done, and you can have multiple types and sizes to fill a certain area. A nice star design is to have 3 stars on each side of your belly going diagonally down and inwards and growing smaller each time, it helps to frame your belly and make it stand out when you are on the beach!

Butterflies

Butterflies are great to have as belly tattoos because like the other two, you can have multiple versions of them to fill up the space and give some variety, and in fact you could combine flowers and butterflies together, maybe with a bird too (see the gallery below) to make a beautiful design.
Butterflies are also usually quite colourful and there are so many to choose from, you can emulate a real butterfly, or you can just choose one someone else has designed, either way it'll look beautiful.

For guys:

Dragons

Dragons, both the decorative Chinese style and the more modern style, are popular with guys, I know women do get them as well, but dragons symbolise power and strength, so they are more popular with guys.
The great thing is that in particular the Chinese type of dragon, can wind right around your body, so you could have it start at your belly and wind up your back and over your shoulder for instance. There are so many different styles of dragon you can get that it is important you have a good look round before you decide which one you want to move forward with.

Tribal

This is one of the most popular types of tattoo today, because with such a simple concept, just black ink and simple shapes, then you can create an infinite amount of variation. Plus they look good too!
Tribal tattoos remind us of warrior tattoos in hunter-gatherer tribes and they are great as belly tattoos because you can make them as large or small as you want and make them go where you want to. You can even ask for a custom one like I did and the tattoo artist can easily sketch something out for you and let you have a look, then you have your own unique design to show off!

Conclusion

So there you have it, you can see the most important aspect of belly tattoos is to be able to make them fit how you want them to, you don't just want a circle or square of tattoo on your belly, you want it to flow and make use of the space, have a look at some of the images below and good luck with your new tattoo!
